Meet the Author: Toni Shiloh
Hello, hello! This month’s writer highlight is Toni Shiloh. Ms. Shiloh writes Christian romantic fiction, and one of the things I have enjoyed about her writing is how her characters’ faith is simply a part of who they are. It’s one of the things that really grounds the characters, and makes them seem real and relatable. Not to mention, Ms. Shiloh writes a very good slow-burn romance. My personal introduction to Ms. Shiloh’s impressive body of work is her Faith & Fortune series which has glitz, glamor, and a touch of suspense (plus sweet and swoony romance, of course!). Ms. Shiloh is a prolific writer, with a brand new novel–In Search of a Prince–that was released in February.

Have you always wanted to be a writer? If not, what prompted you to start? I haven't. I actually joined the military straight out of high school. Once my service time ended, I went back to school. It took a few switches in majors to finally decide on English. Once I took a creative writing class, I was hooked and knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
What is your favorite part of the writing process, and least favorite part of the writing process? My favorite part is that first draft. Watching as a story unfolds and the characters reveal who they are and the struggles they've gone through. My least favorite part is the revision or editing process. By that time, I'm ready to be done with the story, lol.
What drew you to writing romantic fiction? I've always been a hopeless romantic. You know the one who watches chick flicks and rom coms until I could recite them. Not only that but I've always been drawn to reading the romance genre, no matter the subgenre. As long as romance is present, I'll read it. It made sense that I would immediately write in this genre.
Who is someone who has inspired you creatively? Oh wow. There's not just one person. My favorite authors all inspire me as well as authors I've met along the journey. I'm just glad to be in the same club.
What kind of books do you gravitate toward in your own reading life? I kind of answered this earlier but I'll get more specific. My Kindle and bookshelves hold mostly contemporary romance and romantic suspense. I also love rom coms which have filled up my Kindle pretty fast.
What is your superpower? Hmm, good question. My kids would say having eyes on the back of my head. My author friends would say writing a book fast.
What is one of the best pieces of advice you’ve ever gotten (about anything!)? "Write no matter how much time you have." I quickly incorporated this and have learned to write in 15-minute spans if that's all I'm granted.
